Zapatista Solidarity

The Chiapas Support Committee is an organizational adherent to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle, a statement which defines principles for international solidarity with the Zapatista Movement of Indigenous Peoples in Chiapas, Mexico.

The Zapatistas rose in rebellion on January 1, 1994 – the day when the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) went into effect. Since then, the Zapatistas have been building systems of government, health care, education, and production autonomously from the Mexican Government.
